Imagine

This image right here is the "Imagine" tile work done in New York City. It represents John Lennon's song "Imagine". The song describes a world where there was peace, prosperity, and joy. Lennon wanted everyone to just imagine how much better off we would all be if we put our worries and hatred aside, and actually feel compassion to others. This mural represents all of Lennon's ideas and thoughts and not only reminds us to imagine a better world, but to live our lives from that imagination. http://images.search.yahoo.com/images/view?back=http%3A%2F%2Fimages.search.yahoo.com%2Fsearch%2Fimages%3Fp%3Dimagine%26ei%3DUTF-8%26fr%3Dhp-pvdt%26fr2%3Dtab-web&w=500&h=375&imgurl=static.flickr.com%2F1040%2F1045283154_372a5c531b.jpg&rurl=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.flickr.com%2Fphotos%2Fwdr3%2F1045283154%2F&size=203k&name=Lennon+Imagine&p=imagine&oid=b8427ba55a03771c&fr2=tab-web&fusr=wdr3&lic=1&no=1&tt=2870125&sigr=11du3dman&sigi=11gtkje58&sigb=12mb899br

Quotes

"If you think it's expensive to hire a professional to do the job, wait until you hire an amateur." - Red Adair. This quote is a very humorous, but serious statement. One is usually looking for the most cost effective way to get a design project done leading them to hire the less expenseive amateur. The amateur will most likely end up costing one more because they will make mistakes needing extra materials and more money. This statement could also mean that the amateue will not produce a great design like a professional. So in the long run, hiring someone with more experience will cost you less, and give you what you wanted.

Typeface

Typeface is a set of fonts in different sizes that is coordinated with a certain set of languages. The different fonts shown here all are used for one specific language. The fonts add character to the language they are representing, and add a sense of style . If the font is used for another language than the one designated the words look out of place and useless. Typeface can add so much meaning and depth to any image if used correctly.

Bruce Mau Manifesto

Bruce Mau's article is a very witty, but effective way of doing any project. His listed ideas have a hint of humor, but if followed will probably produce capable results. I especially enjoyed how he said that one should not sleep because the best ideas come when one has pushed themselves too far. Mau's article should be able to help any one who is completely blocked on where to go next with their ideas. His collabaration of ideas range from hilarious to actually serious guidelines, and should be tried by anyone who needs an extra boost. I would definitely love to follow his list on one of my next projects. I think it will not only help me get ideas, but clear my mind until a new idea comes along. How about any of you?

Trojan + Panda = Visual Metaphor?

First of this photo was found on a article that was trying to prove that religion was trying to get into the state system. The website is http://pandasthumb.org/archives/TrojanPandaSmall%5b1%5d.jpg. This article explains that religion, mostly Christianity, is trying to sneak its way into laws of the state. The offering they give is a panda instead of a horse, but the meaning is still the same. The reference is to the Trojan Horse of ancient times which was used to act as a decoy for an attack. This article is pushing the idea of religious people controlling state laws. I personally believe that when laws are made, they should be made on what the people think is right. Religion should not be able to control all the laws. What's right changes with the times, and laws should be made to be flexible.

Design_Language_Culture

Design, culture, and language all tie together nicely when used to communicate with an audience. Design itself is the act of creating something to have a purpose. Culture is the way of life of many different people around the world. Everyone has a unique lifestyle that is shared throughout the community. Each culture is unique with its way of art, dance, and communication. Languages are used for one person to understand the other. As known not everyone uses the same language which adds diversity to our world. Each language is beautifully designed for the communication of people in one culture. Language, culture, and design all tie together when one would like to convey a message to a particular person. The person would need to understand the metaphors used in the design. The metaphors would need to be known in that specific culture.

The Red

The imagery portrayed in the song The Red by Chevelle is very deep and intense. The song uses the color red to describe a deep rage that one feels towards the world. The person in this song is tired of being let down and lied to by the world. He tries to calm down, but in the end he just keeps on seeing red. To me the lyrics of this song portrays an image of the worlds darker betraying side. The imagery I associate with the song is like seeing everything through a red filter, you can still see the images but everything is in a shade of dark red. Even though the image of the song is not clearly visible one can imagine different possibilities. Music has some very good imagery in its lyrics if one applies their imagination to it. Is there any songs that you feel portray descriptive images to ones imagination?
