The Red

The imagery portrayed in the song The Red by Chevelle is very deep and intense. The song uses the color red to describe a deep rage that one feels towards the world. The person in this song is tired of being let down and lied to by the world. He tries to calm down, but in the end he just keeps on seeing red. To me the lyrics of this song portrays an image of the worlds darker betraying side. The imagery I associate with the song is like seeing everything through a red filter, you can still see the images but everything is in a shade of dark red. Even though the image of the song is not clearly visible one can imagine different possibilities. Music has some very good imagery in its lyrics if one applies their imagination to it. Is there any songs that you feel portray descriptive images to ones imagination?

In An Absolut World

The ad shown here was a controversial ad that was used to promote Absolut Vodka in Mexico around March 2008. This ad shows Mexico regaining and maintaining its original land from the United States. Even though this ad was not meant to target the US population, many Americans were infuriated by it they were demanding for the removal of it. Absolut Vodka released an apology to the United States specifically stating that this ad was not meant for their demographic. I have seen this ad before in my Spanish class of Spring 08. When I look at this ad, I am not offended though. I see it as a company trying to sell its product to many different nations by using propaganda that is appealing to certain types of demographics. As clearly shown, this was for the Mexican population. I do understand why Americans are upset with this as, but I don't believe it was a call for an uproar against it. What do you believe or what emotions does this ad instill in you? This ad was found on http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/laplaza/2008/04/mexico-reconque.html.

War On Oil

I found this satirical poster on the website http://politicalhumor.about.com/library/images/bliraqsuvjuice.htm. It is meant to portray a poster meant to support the war on Iraq. This poster shows that people should support the war because when Iraq is conquered, fuel for their gas guzzling SUV's will be cheaper, making life easier for them. This posters hidden meaning, though, is that former President Bush declared war only on Iraq for the sole purpose of controlling an oil source which would lead to more money and control for the United States. The poster also portrays the way Iraq is being left. It describes Iraq as a bombed-out, Godless land. This poster was most likely made in the very early stages of the war.

Pentagram 07

The video I watched was called Pentagram 07 and can be found on this link: http://www.hillmancurtis.com/index.php?/film/watch/pentagram_07/. The video starts out with a diagram drawing that was produced on the computer, which showed how the Pentagram became to be. This diagram showed how the original founders of the company, spread out into different branches around the world through the years. After the diagram is shown and explained, the creator of the diagram explains that the Pentagram is a design company. According to the many workers at the company everyone is at the same level, working with each other to collaborate designs. The company is also constantly in a renewal process when someone new enters the company because they have to show them how the company works. Pentagram also works with its different sister branches when new designs are needed. After this explanation, a clip of different designs produced by the company are shown. All the designs in this clip show how many different designs can form into one beautiful masterpiece. This video, I believe, is a big collaboration of showing how artist come together and share their common passion to create.

Unity in a Coffee House

This image is of a larger painting, but I chose to talk about the one part of this artwork that shows different structures of houses. I found this piece of artwork in the Starbucks by Park Place Mall. I usually do not take notice of the artwork there, but today I took particular attention to this one. I believe it represents a unity of people, and that no matter their culture, language, or religion, we are all still human beings with different tastes. I believe that the brown aura around the houses represents the differences of the people in each specific culture, and that the rectangular border around the certain piece could represent how all of our different cultures are living on the same planet, Earth. Having it be in a Starbucks made me wonder if this piece was trying to represent that no matter our differences we can all come together and enjoy a cup of coffee. It also made me think that this piece could represent that coffee houses can bring different nationalities and personas all under one roof to enjoy the common interest of drinking a cup of coffee in the company of fellow friends. This painting is definitely connotative. There is no exact meaning to this piece, and one is allowed to interpret and analyze it how one pleases.
